Our Review of the Paddy Cutter – Practical, Affordable, and Definitely Not for Idiots At Fishingmad Tackle Shop, based at Newmill Trout Fishery in Central Scotland, we face the same summer struggle as many other fisheries—pond weeds. Any fishery, waterway, or land manager knows how costly traditional weed-cutting equipment can be to hire or purchase. While visiting a tackle factory in China, we stumbled across these paddy field cutters. They're basic, rough around the edges, and built more for function than finesse. That said, they're surprisingly effective and extremely cost-efficient for the job. We mounted ours on a Bison 2.7m inflatable and powered it using a Bison M250 electric outboard, with a battery setup supplying 24v and 48v to the motor and cutter, respectively. It’s not plug-and-play—you’ll need to fabricate your own mounting platform and figure things out as you go. There are no instructions, and the design is about as agricultural as it gets. This is a tool for practical, hands-on types—fishery managers, land managers, tinkerers, and DIY enthusiasts. If you know your way around tools and don’t mind a bit of improvising, it’s a solid investment. But let’s be clear: this is not for idiots. If you're expecting polished equipment with a manual and support line, look elsewhere. Overall, a fantastic value solution for serious weed management—just bring your own know-how.
